Two things I’ve realized lately.
Whenever you do something that scares you, good things will come out of it. Taking a leap of faith to quit a job, make a move, start something, make a grand gesture, and so forth. Recently I had brunch with a good friend who said that someone wise once told him that when you’re stuck, get rid of the thing that you are most attached to, and the clouds will part. Good things; leap, don’t crawl. Within reason and the bounds of decency, of course.
Share beautiful moments with those you love. With all these social networks, we overshare, and I’m probably the person who is most guilty of doing so. Recently, I’ve started sharing less on everything else and more on Instagram because there’s this implicit pressure to be artistic and write pithy, inspired lines based on what you’re feeling at the time. I love being able to tell someone to come out and look at the sky, not to see anything hugely dramatic and explosive, but just to share a fleeting and beautiful moment.
Also, tell the people you love that you love them, and always say it dramatically with feeling so they know you mean it. Hug them hard. So I guess that’s three things.
